UNESCO Global Geoparks are single, unified geographical areas where sites and landscapes of international geological significance are managed with a holistic concept of protection, education and sustainable development. Their bottom-up approach of combining conservation with sustainable development while involving local communities is becoming increasingly popular. While there are 127 UNESCO Global Geoparks in 35 countries, many parts of the world still lack the presence of a UNESCO Global Geopark. In the western and central Asia region, the only UNESCO Global Geopark is Qeshm Island in Iran. This workshop is aimed at stakeholders in the surrounding countries who have an interest in developing UNESCO Global Geoparks. The workshop will bring together internationally renowned experts on Geoparks together with the workshop delegates in a detailed knowledge exchange on UNSECO Global Geoparks.

If you are coming from Bandar Abbas the simplest way is to get on a speedboat at main harbor. There are lots of them departing each few minutes. The ride takes between 30 to 60 minutes depending on the boat. A car ferry leaves regularly from Bander-e-Pol, about 60km west of Bandar Abbas. It is allowed to go on the island with a foreign vehicle (but it’s necessary to show your Carnet de passage).
If you are traveling from other cities, then it is easier to book a direct bus to Qeshm instead of going to Bandar Abbas and then take the ferry. There is a daily flight from Dubai (UAE) to Qershm Island.
Visa on Arrival & E-Visa (Apply only at Imam Khomeini International Airport – Tehran) For applying visa you click here
To get to Qeshm Islan via Dubai Airport, you can get a 30-day visa on arrival at Qeshm International Airport. This visa is only to visit Qeshm Island and if you want to visit other cities in Iran you need to apply for visa at Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Qeshm Island.
